Hospitals

Our Caribbean hospital work experience programme in St. Lucia offers students the chance to gain work experience shadowing doctors in a tropical setting. We work with the island's largest Government-run hospital, giving students the opportunity to experience a range of medical environments that affect the work of today’s doctors.

St Lucia is a country that is a popular place with tourists, especially those who are on a cruise and it means that the economy is heavily dependant on this tourism. Our Hospital program takes place in a setting that is very different to what your average Caribbean tourist gets to experience, as our prehealth students are based in a busy Governement hospital on the island. Students get to experience a great contrast to healthcare in their own countries through the in depth experience they gain working in our partner hospitals.

We recommend that students split their time between different hospital departments in order to have a more rounded, and indeed interesting, placement. Our head office team will work with you to help you decide which areas of the hospital you would like to be placed in so we can provide you with a medical placement that best suits your interests .

Our partner hospital is within easy travelling distance from the Gap Medics house. The doctors who act as student mentors are highly respected within the community and proud to be part of our international education programmes. Their wealth of experience makes them ideal leaders for our bespoke clinical teaching sessions that our students attend three afternoons a week.
