Gap Medics is offering your students the opportunity to spend their school break participating in a bespoke medical work experience placement in Tanzania or Thailand. Whether your students already have place at medical school or are hoping to apply in the future, there is no better way for them to immerse themselves in the medical profession. Students will shadow experienced healthcare professionals, observe surgery, ward rounds and outpatient clinics. They will have the opportunity to learn about tropical diseases and how to manage patient care when resources are scarce. Time on the front-line of medicine will be balanced with regular global health tutorials where students can learn about the social and economic factors affecting healthcare in the region where they are working. To make sure as many students as possible have the opportunity to take part we have set a side a range of program dates, so they can pick those which work best with their holidays: 7th December – 20th Dec14th December – 27th Dec21st Dec – 3rd Jan28th Dec – 10th Jan4th Jan – 17th Jan11th Jan – 24th Jan18th Jan – 31st Jan25th Jan – 7th Feb The program runs for two weeks, giving students time to really immerse themselves in the hospital environment. They will have the opportunity to split their time between two different departments, providing contrasting experiences to take home. Students’ evenings and weekends are free, so they’ll have plenty of time to explore the fascinating and diverse attractions of their chosen host country. Whether they’re on safari in Ruaha National Park, admiring the views from the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro or elephant riding through the Thai jungle, there is plenty to keep them entertained! When they’re not out exploring, students can relax at our private Gap Medics houses with their fellow students. Our staff are on duty at the house at all times to make sure each and every student feels safe and supported at all times. Gap Medics offers students an incredible opportunity to gain an insight into the inner workings of a hospital. The educational benefits of this experience are unrivalled and would be difficult to gain back home in Australia. An increased understanding of medicine, a deeper knowledge of global healthcare and the confidence that independent travel brings are great first steps towards a medical career!
