Find out how we have changed the lives of some of our past students.
Tara completed a medical shadowing internship at Iringa Regional Hospital.
“I have always wanted to be a doctor, but I knew I had to do something to reassure myself that it was the best occupation for me. I stumbled across Gap Medics and decided it was the perfect program!
The minute I got off the plane and was greeted by the Gap Medics staff, I knew I was in safe hands. Once in Iringa, I could not have been more impressed with the accommodation! The property was bright, spacious and very clean.
Now to the best part of Gap Medics…the placement! It was truly amazing being placed in different parts of the hospital each week. I was able to witness and participate in things I never thought possible
For instance, my second week there I watched an above the knee amputation. I even got to help put a cast on a broken arm! Overall, my time in the hospital was the best experience I could’ve asked for and really showed me what it is like to be a doctor.
In addition to my placement, I volunteered at the local orphanage for a week. This was another life-changing experience.
I also got the opportunity to immerse myself in Tanzanian life. We frequently visited the shops, markets, and restaurants after our workday or on weekends. And if you are wondering if you should go on the safari, my answer is a resounding YES. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
Overall, I’d recommend this program to anyone. I was there for a month, and it was the best month of my life. It truly offered a learning experience you can’t get in the States and helped reaffirm my desire to be a doctor.”
