Forget about your summer plans – It’s all about October half term!

Gap Medics are delighted to hold a Half Term Special this October in Tanzania. If you are looking for a future career in medicine, nursing, midwifery or dentistry then you will know that experience is very important.

Observing surgery on a Gap Medics Medical Work Experience placement in Tanzania  We will be running the October Half Term Special to coincide with your school holiday dates. When applying for the programme just select the date that works best for you, from the list below:

13th October 2013 – 19th October 2013

20th October 2013 – 26th October 2013

27th October 2013 – 2nd November 2013

Your weeklong work placement will take place in the Iringa Regional Hospital in the beautiful town of Iringa.  Throughout the week you will gain a minimum of 23 contact hours in one of the following departments: Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine or Paediatrics.

We will also supply students with 3 clinical teaching sessions – This gives you the opportunity to learn, in more detail, what it is you are witnessing in the hospital each day. Doctors will discuss various medical procedures with you and also give you examples of real-life case studies to work on.

After working in the hospital you will have some free time in the afternoon! In this spare time students are usually found playing volleyball in the grounds of the Gap Medics house, we will also hold huge BBQs for you to try all of the local dishes on offer, you have the chance to climb to the top of a gently sloping rock to view the most spectacular sunsets, you can go horse riding in huge open spaces and so much more!

The October holidays are a perfect time to gain some medical work experience. If you book before the deadline of your UCAS application, you can write about the experience you will gain. Going overseas at this stage in your academic life shows universities that you are forward thinking and are dedicated to your chosen career path by gaining experience in your own, personal time!

Enjoying the sunset over Iringa from Gangilonga Rock  This weeklong experience will cost just £1190 and will include your fully-supervised hospital placement, accommodation in our own fully staffed Gap Medics House, all of your food for the week, your airport arrival transfer, 24/7 support from our teams in Tanzania and in our UK based office.  We will even throw in a Gap Medics t-shirt!

Throughout your time here you will be able to gain extra knowledge in the area you are most passionate about. You will gain a lot of help from the medical teams in the hospital who are there to fully support and guide you.

October is a great time to travel as you can usually find relatively cheap flights this time of year.

Spaces for this October Half Term Special are limited and usually do get booked up fast.
