Are you considering travelling to Thailand to complete hospital work experience? Wondering what the country has to offer you when you’re not busy working? Is Thailand really the right choice for you?

Thailand is an ideal country to travel to if you are looking for medical work experience. Its many busy hospitals offer a complex and varied approach to healthcare that is a great contrast from that of local hospitals back home. Diseases such as Typhoid and Hepatitis A – which are rare in the UK – are common occurrences here, creating an interesting and unique experience. Thailand is also a popular option for students who have an interest in oncology, paediatrics, neurology, gastroenterology and ear, nose and throat diseases. Basically, if you are interested in it, Thailand most likely offers it!

But aside from great hospitals, Thailand can provide you with so much more in terms of experience… and this time it is not just work experience.

Thailand is a beautiful country – the tropical climate and busy tourist areas make it a popular destination to visit even if you are simply venturing there for a holiday or to do a spot of travelling – so spending your time here during work experience is a bonus. Outside of the tourist areas, Thailand also offers a very cultural and traditional outlook on life – resulting in a very conventional Thai feel. You could be exploring the bustling streets one day, and then venturing on a hill tribe trek through the tropical jungle the next.

With Gap Medics, you really can experience the best of both worlds.

Gap Medics offer hospital work experience placements throughout the year at our base in Chiang Mai – situated right between the bustle of the tourist areas and the cultural locals. We also fully support our students right from the moment they enquire about our placements, through to the moment they return back from their travels, and beyond.

Activities available to you in Thailand are endless, but popular ones that you may be interested in include: visiting the beautiful white sand beaches and soaking up the tropical sunshine whilst watching dolphins pass by in the ocean – or if you’re feeling a little more adventurous you can even go swimming with them in their natural habitat. Hill tribe treks through the jungle on the back of an elephant are also something that should not be missed; and you cannot travel to Thailand without tasting all of the delicious Thai delicacies that will make your taste buds tingle!

The cost of our hospital work experience placement is £1,190 for one week; with an extra £350 on top of that for each extra week a student wishes to stay on placement with us.
