Are Obs Gyn Student Hannah with a newborn in Tanzaniayou an aspiring doctor, nurse, midwife or dentist? Gap Medics are offering students aged 16 and over the opportunity to gain some valuable work experience in hospitals in Tanzania during the October half term break.

With ever-growing competition to get into university, quality work experience is becoming a necessity. An independent venture to Tanzania to shadow medical professionals will help you display your passion for your chosen field. It will also help your university application to stand out from other applicants – who else can say they travelled around the world for this kind of unique experience?

The cost of a one-week placement with us will be £890, including the registration fee. Take a look at our available placement dates to see which will coincide with your school’s half term break:

  • 12th October – 18th October
  • 19th October – 25th October
  • 26th October – 1st November

We have three destinations in Tanzania which are age specific. Our over 18s programme is based in Iringa while our two under 18s programmes are based in Morogoro and Kilimanjaro. During your placement, you will attend one of our partner hospitals where you will be assigned your very own mentor. You will spend your time shadowing these medical professionals in various departments –  you could end up observing CsSections in obstetrics and gynaecology or skin grafts in surgery. Whatever you’re interested in we can tailor our programmes to suit you!

We also provide three global health tutorials a week, run by experts in public health. These tutorials will help to give you a deeper understanding of healthcare, including the treatment and prevention of diseases which are prevalent in the local area.

Outside the Gap Medics house in Chiang Mai! Our destinations offer easy access to the stunning wildlife and untamed wilderness of well known safari parks, which means you can finish your placement on Friday afternoon and be down by a waterhole spotting elephants, lions or giraffes by sunset! Our super-sociable yet extremely safe Gap Medics houses also offer you the chance to share your experience with like-minded people from all around the world.

Places tend to fill up very quickly, so we advise booking a place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. If you are interested in studying healthcare, or just want to find out a bit more about it, then this is your chance to do so!

You shouldn’t worry if you can’t fit a placement with us into your October Half Term, or if you wish to travel to a different destination – all you need to do is contact our Head Office and we will help find the perfect placement for you anytime throughout the year!

If you have questions, we would be happy to answer them for you! You can reach our Head Office by phone at 0191 230 8080, by email at info@gapmedics.com or by completing the contact form below.
